Kathmandu: Tibeter weiterhin in Haft

Der König von Nepal hat anlässlich seines 57. Geburtstages am 7.7.2003 150 Häftlinge begnadigt. Unsere Hoffnung, dass sich darunter auch die immer noch in Haft verbliebenen 9 Tibeter befinden, wurde nicht erfüllt. Unsere Faxaktion der letzten Woche hatte somit keinen Erfolg.

Heute morgen erhielten wir folgende deprimierende Nachricht vom Tibet Office Kathmandu:

"Tashi delek,

We are sorry to say that our Tibetans are not amongst the 150 fortunate prisoners who got pardoned off their prison sentences on HM King's birthday."

Wir werden uns nicht enmutigen lassen und uns weiter fr die Freilassung der Gefangenen einsetzen. Unterstützen Sie uns bitte dabei.

FAX-Aktion für 9 inhaftierte Tibeter in Nepal 1.7.03


Folgen Sie dem Aufruf der Tibet Initiative Deutschland e.V. und bitten Sie den König von Nepal per Fax, bei seiner alljährlichen Amnestie, anlässlich seines Geburtstags am 7.7., insbesondere die 9 tibetischen Gefangenen zu berücksichtigen. Die Schüler und Studenten (zwischen 19 und 35 Jahre alt) befanden sich auf dem Weg von Indien nach Tibet. Da sie keine gültigen Einreisepapiere besaßen wurden sie festgenommen und zu 10 Jahren Haft verurteilt.

Bislang gibt es für die Tibeter, die von Tibet nach Nepal fliehen, ein ungeschriebenes Übereinkommen zwischen der nepalischen Regierung und dem UN-Hochkommissariat für Flüchtlinge (UNHCR), das ihnen eine ungehinderte Weiterreise nach Indien gewährt. Dies gilt aber nicht für Tibeter, die über Nepal nach Tibet zurückkehren wollen.

Request for Royal Pardon

Your Majesty,

I would like to send my congratulations to You on Your birthday. I wish You that this new year of life will bring You, Your people and country much prosperity. At present Nepal is in a situation which perhaps makes it difficult to maintain the humane and generous treatment of the refugees from Tibet, against the pressure of China.
I was very dismayed when I heard that Your Majesty´s Government gave into Chinese pressure and deported 18 Tibetan refugees on May 31, 2003. I therefore ask You to extend generous treatment to the Tibetans living in Nepal as Your Majesty´s Government used to give in the past and also permit Tibetans escaping from Chinese rule to use Nepal as transit.
I cordially ask You to include following Tibetan prisoners on the list of amnesty on the occasion of Your birthday 2003.

Dorjee Tashi, 21 years old, in custody since 8-21-01;
Sangye Dhondup, 19 years old, in custody since 8-21-01;
Dhukhar, 26 years old, in custody since 8-21-01;
Lobsang Dorjee, 19 years old, in custody since 08-21-01;
Sonam Lama, 32 years old, in custody since 08-23-01;
Sechya Lama, 33 years old, in custody since 08-23-01;
Heroka, 32 years old, in custody since 06-22-00;
Chonyi Dorje, 35 years old, custody since 05-15-02;
Palden Gyatso, 32 years old, in custody since 02-15-02
(all male) who were sentenced to 10 years of detention because they did not possess valid entry papers.

Such an amnesty would repair the international reputation of the Kingdom of Nepal, which certainly suffered on account of the deportation of the Tibetans to the Chinese authorities. I sincerely hope to get an open ear and Your Majesty will grant amnesty to all the above mentioned Tibetans.
